Leading up to Christmas the children of the church would come to the Church Hall on a Saturday evening for “Christingle-making.”  The children could also invite a friend if they wished.
It was a very fun time for all because it was also a combination pizza party.

The children and helpers made dozens of christingles! A Christingle is a symbolic object made with an orange.  It represents  “Christ’s Light.” It  has a red ribbon tied around it, and a small candle is placed inside, and dried fruit or sweets are attached with four toothpicks that symbolize the four corners of the earth where people come from.

The Christingles and they were given out at the children’s service the following evening- a longstanding tradition, not only at St Mary’s but a Moravian tradition that dates back to 1747.
