These photos are mementos from the family of Archdeacon Thomas Dyson submitted kindly by Zoe Dyson.

Archdeacon Thomas Dyson was the Rector of St Mary the Virgin for 38 years, from 1957-1995

  • A poem- The Archbishop and the Frog given to Mrs Dyson by the Archdeacon more than 40 years ago. The poem was written by Frances Lightbourne.

Francis C. Lightbourne was a priest of the church employed as librarian of the University Club of Chicago. When he was one of some sixty candidates confirmed in St. Mary’s Church, Warwick, Bermuda,

On April 2, 1924, a brown toad hopped up the aisle as the Archbishop of Nova Scotia was engaged in the laying on of hands. His Grace unobtrusively motioned to someone to put the creature out, which was quietly done. Such is the factual nucleus of “The Archbishop and the Frog”

  • Archdeacon Thomas Dyson pictured in an article from The Royal Gazette, standing in front of  one of four newly installed stained glass windows. This particular stained glass window is called « Fishers of Men. » Each of the stained glass windows was installed in memory of prominent members of the church. This window in particular, « Fishers of Men » is in memory of Mr. Earlington Simons and his wife, Berniece.

The three other windows ( not pictured ) are in memory of

  • the Minister of External Affairs (at the time) Sir John Sharpe’s parents: Mr and Mrs Harry Sharpe, Mrs. Amanda White,
  • Mr. and Mrs. John William Kennedy, and
  • Mr. and Mrs. James Young

Lastly, the final photo is Archdeacon Thomas Dyson probably in the early 1970’s standing on the front porch of the Warwick Rectory on Longford Road with his family.
