Lisa Wingood has been guiding yoga classes at the National Museum of Bermuda since 2020, forming a steadfast community around her and solidifying her role in the museum’s community outreach. She states that “teaching in such a historic and scenic setting is an incredible experience, with diverse spaces that enhance our practice. We’ve been fortunate to flow in the open air near the dolphins, find tranquility in the eclectic Queen’s Hall, and even practice on the porch of the Commissioner’s House, where we take in breathtaking views of Bermuda. Shanna Hollis is a Bermudian Graphic Designer and Chair of the Bermuda Arts Council. Her designs are known for their bright color choices and bold patterns. She has designed stylish textiles, created eye-catching murals on buildings locally and internationally, and transformed the decor of various homes and businesses on the island. Hollis’ work celebrates her island, community, identity, and experiences. She was inspired to pursue a creative career by her brother Nahshon Hollis, a professional Oil Painter. Graham Foster is a Bermudian artist best known for his huge mural the Hall of History at NMB: a two-story, 1,000 square foot interior mural that depicts five centuries of Bermudian history, and took over 3 years to complete. A professional artist since 1995, Foster’s paintings include Bermuda’s flora, fauna, architecture and people that he renders in a uniquely surreal style and expressionistic art that is often influenced by dreams and the subconscious. Foster is also a sculptor, working primarily in welded and forged steel. His sculptural pieces are strongly influenced by the tribal arts of Africa and the Pacific Rim. Join Graham for an artist talk in the Hall of History at 11:00am for a rare opportunity to learn about his inspiration, technique and the stores that breathe life into his art.

Rivah is a Bermudian Born self-taught Singer/Songwriter Guitarist. He has been performing around the island for over twenty years. Now with the help of a looper pedal Rivah is said to be a one-man band. Starting with a drum beat he builds the song with each part as a loop then sings. Also, if requested, he plays with a bass player and a lead guitarist. His repertoire consists of reggae, jazz, soul, contemporary, pop, soft rock classics, and originals appealing to a wide range of music lovers. Join Rivah in the Keep Yard at 12:15pm to experience his Island famous music.

Jake Commandeur believes that art isn’t a subject confined to a classroom or gallery, but instead is woven through history and everyday environments. Since moving to Bermuda, Jake has been captivated by the island’s colors, textures, wildlife, and the way nature and weather shape the landscape. For Community Day, Jake invites visitors to help create a collaborative artwork inspired by these elements of Bermuda. Using simple materials like ice lolly sticks, he hopes to build abstract sculptures that reflect the island’s natural forms—its animals, textures, and the energy of the environment. The installation will grow throughout the day, with each participant adding their own touch, making it a shared and evolving expression of Bermuda’s unique beauty. Michael Bradshaw is a retired community college lecturer and administrator. He has been a member of the friendly society movement in Bermuda for 35+ years, serving on the Executive Committee of the Bermuda Friendly Societies Association for 10 years (the last five as President). His work is aimed at securing a prominent and sustainable future for the friendly society story as a part of the heritage of formerly enslaved Bermudians after Emancipation as a backdrop for Bermuda’s social history as well as an overlooked lens to explore Atlantic World history and British Caribbean history’. Dr. Bradshaw will present a number of object investigations on Community Day hoping to draw visitors into their story. Some objects may remind you of photos and other family heirlooms which he would be pleased to assist you in identifying. This will be an interactive lecture using archival material  held at NMB as well as items which audience members choose to bring along. John Gardner is a Bermudian independent Architext and Artist. He studied Architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design and practiced in New York and Bermuda. His interest in Bermuda stone came about during his retirement in 2016 while working in Charleston, South Carolina. His artwork has been published in The New York Times and frequently exhibited in the Bermuda Biennial. Join John and Larry Mills to discuss the exhibit’s art, history, and influence in the STONE exhibit of Commissioner’s House at 2:00pm.

Larry Mills has been interested in Bermuda’s Vernacular Architecture and the materials and methods that caused it to evolve as it has, for over 40 years. Larry was involved in the construction of the replica of the very first domestic “Cabben” at the Carter House Museum in 2012. Larry had the good fortune to have been directly involved in the building of 3 of the last all Bermuda Stone houses built. His interest in the manufacture and use of limestone has sent him down a historical investigation of the early settler’s use of limestone. After many years trying to understand it’s place in our lives, he has begun to finally learn of the stone’s tremendous role in the lives of those settlers who were actively participating in the Atlantic Settlements elsewhere – building stone of this type was in high demand overseas. Larry intends to try to put the exporting of this precious commodity into context.
