Sunrise over Old Chimneys - this is a beautiful Bermuda cottage that has eroded over time. I find the ruin beautiful because you can see the ocean in the background. It is in my neighborhood and reminds me of home. You can see the Bermuda roof and the two chimneys in the building design.

My family and I went on a hayride at Wadson's Farm last Friday. It was my first hayride and I had never seen anyone drive such a big tractor. Also, this made me wish that I could drive one too someday.

My Dad showed me the parts of the Portuguese-man-o-war that can harm me if I swim next to them. He also showed me how people pop them with their feet when they are resting on the beach. I asked my dad to let this one survive so he could get a sun tan! I loved this picture because it reminds me that, even though some people may not be kind sometimes, they aren’t always unkind. Sometimes, they just need people to let them be at peace.

“Ummm, Privacy, please!!” Even though we don’t like to talk about it much, we all have to “go” sometimes! This is a picture of an old out-house in Bermuda. In the old days, children and adults would have to walk outside to a separate building to use the bathroom, even at night and in the rain. I would NOT like that. That can be a scary experience, for more than one reason. This photo makes me proud of my island because we have come a long way from where we used to be. And I am grateful for that! Remember to flush and wash!

It was nice to see her and other individuals taken care of that bus stop that tends to constantly be sprayed with graffiti. This is the old Elliot Primary School. It was built in 1926 and is located at Jubilee Road in Devonshire. Elliot Primary School was named after Governor Charles Elliot. This building is now the home of Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation. I chose this building because it was the first school in Devonshire parish.It means a lot to me because I share some of it’s history because my nana was a past student of this school. It represents a part of Bermuda’s school history.

Did you Know some walls are made of bricks, and some are made of limestone? Well, my wall is made out of bricks and limestone. I chose this picture because it looks cool. Bermuda builders are smart builders. This wall stands tall no matter what storm hits it. My mom told me there was a saying, “Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words can never hurt me.” She said I can say bricks and stones can break bones. She explained what that means. I disagree. Words can hurt sometimes. So, just like my wall, let’s use words to help us stand tall, not hurt us.

These Sanitation workers are the best! I chose this photo because if we did not have these workers, the world would stink. They take the things that nobody wants and collect them with a smile. They burn the trash that can’t be recycled or reused in a giant furnace. That means they are willing to take the heat for us! Before I asked them to take their picture, they were working hard. They smiled and collected, which was pretty cool. Nothing seems to bother them. That makes them the best sanitation workers in Bermuda.

Roofs on homes in Bermuda are unique because it is how we obtain our fresh water. Bermuda roofs are built with limestone slate and a stone gutter near the edge of the roof to catch the water down the pipe into our tank. I chose this photo because it represents people living safely which makes me appreciate where we live. I learned in history class that many years ago people had to gather cedar wood and palm leaves to build shelter.
