This February, the National Museum of Bermuda (NMB) threw open its doors again to all Bermuda residents, inviting everyone to enjoy the annual “Free for February” initiative. Thanks to generous sponsorship from RenaissanceRe and Butterfield, thousands of guests discovered the museum’s captivating exhibits and Bermuda’s cultural heritage and history, making this event a true celebration of community and heritage.

Visitors flocked to the Museum throughout the month, soaking in breathtaking views from the historic fort and marveling at massive cannons and traditional watercraft. Graham Foster’s iconic Hall of History mural, captivated visitors of all ages. Special activity packs turned each visit into an adventure, while weekly raffles gave families the chance to win free memberships and stay connected to NMB all year long. Early birds were rewarded as well with the first five visitors each day receiving a complimentary NMB publication, adding an extra spark to their museum experience.

Community Day served as the grand finale to the Free for February initiative, taking place on Sunday, February 22, from 10:00am to 3:00pm. Despite a light rain at the start of the day, more than 850 visitors braved the weather to join in the festivities and enjoy Community Day. The museum grounds came alive with music, laughter, and energetic performances. Guests savored local cuisine from food vendors, won door prizes, and enjoyed exciting activities—including guided tours, art workshops, live performances, wellness activities, and interactive demonstrations across the museum grounds.

Highlights included Hall of History tours with mural artist Graham Foster, a morning yoga session overlooking the Keep, dolphin demonstrations at the Keep Pond, and an engaging talk on Bermuda limestone with Larry Mills. Visitors were also treated to cannon firings, storytelling, hands-on craft workshops, and a striking display of classic bikes outside Commissioners House. Captivating performances by the St. David’s Islanders and Native Community, Royal Bermuda Regiment Band, and Warwick Gombeys brought Bermuda’s cultural traditions to the forefront, uniting visitors in a joyful community celebration.

All day, the museum buzzed with energy as guests explored the Museum’s exhibits and buildings, connected with local artists, and took part in interactive activities. Executive Director Elena Strong captured the spirit of the event, saying, “Museums play a vital role in bringing people together—they are places of connection, curiosity, and community learning. Thanks to our sponsors, Free for February and our Community Day ensures everyone has the opportunity to discover Bermuda’s history and heritage at no cost.”
