As a child between 6 and 10 years of age, I would spend weekends at my grandparents Menora and Cecil Trott’s home. My grandmother made sure I attended Sunday school and church at HTC which was right next door to their home.
My grandmother and my uncle Paynter were members of the HTC Guild and I remember always attending their guild anniversary. On one occasion, I ate a piece of plain cake and crunched on a piece of egg shell. From that day on, I refused to eat plain cake, neither did I want to attend another Guild Anniversary. Still, my grandmother insisted I continue to attend but just not eat plain cake! 🙂
My grandmother always took me to weddings with her at HTC and the receptions in the church hall, even though I never knew the bride or groom. She tried to carry me to funerals with her as well but I always told her I was scared so she did not force me. I remember when my grandparents moved to Devonshire Parish. We would always drive to HTC for Sunday drives to see the church beautifully decorated with flowers on Christmas and Easter Holidays.
These early memories of family participation at HTC and observing the commitment of my uncle and my grandmother helped to shape my understanding of dedication to church and community. I am grateful for these early experiences.
