Programme Overview

NMB is seeking a motivated 12‑Month Museum Intern to support education, curatorial, and community engagement initiatives. This paid internship is designed for recent university graduates eager to gain hands‑on experience in museum work while contributing meaningfully to the Museum’s programmes and daily operations.

At NMB, we believe that history powers community. Through our collections, exhibitions, and education programmes, we connect people to Bermuda’s past and help strengthen a shared sense of place and identity.

This role offers a broad, immersive experience across museum operations — from collections and research to public programmes and community engagement. Interns work closely with NMB staff and contribute to both day‑to‑day activities and longer‑term institutional projects.

The position reports to the Curator & Director of Learning and Engagement and works collaboratively across departments

Key Responsibilities

Education & Public Engagement

  • Support the planning and delivery of museum programmes, including tours, workshops, school programmes, and community events.
  • Assist with the development of interpretive materials and educational resources for visitors of all ages.

Collections & Research

  • Support cataloguing, documentation, and basic collections care activities.
  • Conduct research, image sourcing, and content development related to collections, exhibitions, and education initiatives.
  • Contribute to NMB blogs, MARITimes, and other Museum publications.

 

Administration & Project Support

  • Assist with administrative tasks related to programmes, events, and departmental operations.
  • Help coordinate projects, track timelines, and communicate progress with supervisors.
  • Attend scheduled meetings, training sessions, and museum events.
  • Provide occasional Ticket Office support.

General Support

  • Work collaboratively with staff across departments on ongoing Museum initiatives.
  • Undertake other duties that support departmental and institutional goals.

Who Should Apply

  • Recent graduate (Bachelor’s or Master’s degree) in a relevant field (e.g. history, museum studies, archaeology, anthropology, art history, education); we also welcome applicatns from all academic backgrounds.
  • Strong organisational, communication, and research skills.
  • Interest in museums, education, heritage, and community engagement.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office; experience with collections databases is an asset.
  • Commitment to professionalism, accuracy, and confidentiality.
  • Applicants must hold Bermudian status, be a Spouse of a Bermudian, or hold PRC status.

Time Commitment

  • 20–40 hours per week
  • 12‑month commitment required
  • Some evening or weekend work may be required for events
