You’re Invited!

The National Museum of Bermuda invites articles for a Special Issue of the Bermuda Journal of Archaeology and Maritime History, dedicated to exploring the history of women in Bermuda. This Special Issue aims to compile a diverse, multi-disciplinary collection of essays that delve into the experiences of women in Bermuda from the 17th century to the present day.  

We welcome articles from graduate students and scholars on a wide range of topics, including but not limited to:

  • Women and resistance 
  • Women’s roles in Bermuda literature and the economy 
  • Biographies of notable Bermudian women 
  • Women’s contributions to medicine and education 
  • The role women played in Bermuda’s Atlantic World
  • The Suffragette movement 
  • The female experience of enslavement and post-emancipation 
  • Witch trials 
  • Gender and material culture 
  • Women and legislation 
  • Women in art

Manuscript Submission Information 

  • Deadline: September 31, 2025 
  • All submissions deemed suitable will undergo peer review. Accepted manuscripts will be published in the Special digital issue of the Bermuda Journal of Archaeology and Maritime History. 
  • Submissions must include an abstract (250-300 words) and a brief biography of the author. 
  • All articles must follow NMB House style
