My father, Bill Bendall was posted to Bermuda in 1936; my mother, Freda joined him there in 1938. Bill was a shipwright and was leading hand on AFD 5 when she arrived from England.
Bill, seated in the middle of the front row and the AFD 5 crew after the Floating Dock was positioned dockside in November 1948. In 1951 after the closure of the Royal Navy Dockyard the dock was towed to Falmouth in England.
