I took this photo of a crab spider at the nature reserve at Ferry Reach while walking my dog. A common species found in Bermuda, its proper name is a Gasteracantha or a spiny-backed orb-weaver. I love them for two reasons. Firstly, if you get up close, the markings on their back look like a spooky Halloween face. Secondly, they often weave their webs overnight at around head height. If you are the first to walk down a pathway in the morning and are not paying attention, your face quickly becomes entangled in their web. My Dad is usually out front!
